PERRY TO ADDRESS SANCTUARY CAMPUSES IN SENATE BILL 4

Austin, TX — Last month, Sen. Charles Perry (R - Lubbock) filed priority legislation, Senate Bill 4, to eliminate sanctuary cities in the State of Texas. Since filing this legislation, there has been a push to turn colleges and universities into "sanctuary campuses."

"Our legislation is simple - government entities cannot undermine the rule of law by ignoring our immigration laws, said Perry. “If colleges and universities intend to follow the example of sanctuary cities, we must ensure that our legislation specifically includes them.”

Earlier this week, Governor Greg Abbott tweeted, emphasizing that his office would not allow sanctuary campuses to exist, stating: "Texas will not tolerate sanctuary campuses or cities. I will cut funding for any state campus if it establishes sanctuary status."

Perry continued, "Officers, while investigating a crime or an offense, should not be denied the ability to seek more information about the individual they have detained. At the end of the day, this bill is about keeping our schools and communities safe."

“I look forward to a unified effort this session to comprehensively address this problem once and for all,” said Perry.
