Texas Legislature Approves Legislation for The Woodlands

AUSTIN — Today, House Bill 4149 passed the Texas Senate. This legislation authored by Representative Mark Keough (R-The Woodlands) and sponsored by Senator Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) amends the enabling legislation of The Woodlands Township.

"We have enjoyed working with leadership in The Woodlands and Representative Keough on this logical next step in advancing economic development within the Township," said Senator Creighton.

Although there are no new ordinance powers associated with this legislation, it addresses a number of specific matters relating to The Woodlands and its operations.

This overall effort achieves:

  • Allowing The Woodlands to obtain data from the Harris County Appraisal District;
  • Clarifying boundaries;
  • Transportation and mobility solutions for Township directory to consider associations;
  • Confirmation of Township authority to merge and consolidate with property owners; and,
  • Protection of The Woodlands IRONMAN North American Championship Texas as a state-approved event.

No other changes or additions to the Township's enabling legislation are included in this legislation.

The Woodlands Township is a political subdivision of the State of Texas providing local government services over the 45 square miles of unincorporated area in The Woodlands, which current has a population of 110,000.

SENATOR BRANDON CREIGHTON represents District 4, which encompasses Chambers, Jefferson and parts of Montgomery, Harris, and Galveston Counties. He currently serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs, the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice, the Senate Committee on State Affairs, and as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce.
