Senator Creighton Statement on Dallas-Houston High-Speed Rail Proposal

AUSTIN — Today, Senator Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) issued the following statement in regard to Texas Central Railway's Dallas-Houston high-speed rail proposal:

"The federal government has reached a new low in their disregard for states' rights. The Dallas-Houston high-speed rail, proposed by Texas Central Railway, threatens to confiscate up to 3,000 acres of Texas land and won't provide any opportunity for economic growth in our district. Without allowing input from local elected officials and hearing the voices of Montgomery County residents, I have no choice but to oppose this proposal as it stands."

"Texans stand together — and Texans who own property in Montgomery County should know that they won't have to face the federal government alone," continued Senator Creighton. "As a native Texan, a rancher and a firm believer in private property rights, I stand with Texas landowners. My office is working hard to bring federal, state and local officials together, along with community leaders, to stay engaged and involved in this issue until our community can be assured this project will be beneficial to the families southeast Texas or stopped in its tracks."

On January 16, 2015, the Montgomery County delegation co-signed a letter to the Federal Railroad Administration requesting a public scope meeting in Montgomery County. That letter can be found here (http://www.scribd.com/doc/254225538/Montgomery-County-Delegation-Letter-to-the-Federal-Railroad-Administration).

The proposed corridor would span 240 miles connecting Dallas and Houston with a dedicated high-speed rail system proposed by, Texas Central Railway.

SENATOR BRANDON CREIGHTON represents District 4, which encompasses Chambers, Jefferson and parts of Montgomery, Harris, and Galveston Counties. He currently serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs, the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice, the Senate Committee on State Affairs, and as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce.
