Senator Hinojosa Appointed to Select Committee on Transportation Funding

AUSTIN — Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst appointed Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa as a member of the Senate Select Committee on Transportation Funding. The committee will oversee the State's approach to consistently and reliably fund transportation in Texas as well as highway infrastructure improvements including roads targeted for conversion from paved to unpaved surface textures by TxDOT.

Senator Hinojosa offered the following statement regarding his appointment:

"Transportation is the lifeblood of our economy. With several billion dollars' worth of trade traveling through our roads on a daily basis it is important to understand that transportation is more than just cars and trucks driving on a road. Transportation means economic growth. Transportation means jobs. I look forward to working with the Committee to find ways to ensure that Texans can remain proud of our transportation system," said Senator Hinojosa.

Other members of the Committee include Chairman Tommy Williams, Vice Chairman Robert Nichols, and Senators Campbell, Eltife, Seliger, Hancock, Uresti, and Zaffirini.

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa proudly represents the counties of Nueces, Jim Wells, Brooks, and Hidalgo. Senator Hinojosa serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, and is a member of the Senate Committees on Natural Resources, Criminal Justice, Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Homeland Security as well as the Legislative Budget Board (LBB).
