AUSTIN – The Texas Senate, by a unanimous vote, today approved SB 669 authored by Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound. SB 669 strengthens the rights of taxpayers by making the appraisal process fair, accountable, and more transparent.
"Homeowners in Texas are shouldering a significant share of the tax burden. We need to reduce this burden and ensure that taxpayers are treated fairly in the appraisal process," Senator Nelson said.
The bill provides taxpayers the ability to participate in Appraisal Review Board (ARB) hearings in a more fair and equitable way, by expanding taxpayers' rights and requiring more training for ARB members and arbitrators. Some of the key provisions of SB 669 include:
- Increased training for arbitrators and appraisal review board members;
- Prohibits appraised values from being raised above the notified amount; and
- Expands ways for taxpayers to provide feedback on their appraisal hearing experience.
SB 669 now moves to the Texas House of Representatives for consideration.
