Governor Rick Perry administers the oath of office to Senator Kyle Janek at the Capitol today, as his wife Shannon and sons Ryan and Will look on.

Dr. Kyle Janek of West University Place, near Houston, was sworn in today, November 19, 2002 as the Texas State Senator from District 17. This district includes parts of Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers and Jefferson counties.

Just prior to the actual oath of office being administered by Governor Rick Perry, the governor said the Texas Senate was "a unique institution, built on great, democratic traditions", and that Kyle Janek is a true leader, a consensus builder, and a true voice for Texans who have sent him to Austin".

Lieutenant Governor Bill Ratliff served as the Master of Ceremonies today, and in congratulating Senator Janek on his election said he followed an outstanding Senator, J. E. "Buster" Brown of Brazoria County. Also attending the ceremonies today were his wife Shannon, his two sons Ryan and Will, along with many other family members and friends, with other senators and elected public officials.

Senator Janek was born and raised in Galveston, finishing high school as class salutatorian and attending Texas A&M University during his pre-medical studies. His medical training comes from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

During his time in the House of Representatives, Senator Janek became recognized as an expert in the fields of health care and is known for his fiscal conservatism. The Texas Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce awarded his its "Fighter for Free Enterprise" award following the last legislative session.

Outside of his legislative duties, Senator Janek has worked with and sponsored "Faith in Practice" - a group of volunteer medical professionals who perform medical missionary work in Central America. He is an active sponsor for local Little League and a member of the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce.
