Entering politics in 1972, Senator Whitmire was one of the youngest Representatives in the Texas House, serving for five terms. He was elected to the Senate in 1983 and has represented the people of District 15 ever since. Senator Whitmire serves as chair of the Criminal Justice Committee that aims to keep dangerous criminals off Texas streets. He has two daughters and lives in Houston.
