Shapiro Honored By The National Federation of Independent Business

DALLAS -- State Senator Florence Shapiro (R-Plano) was awarded the Guardian of Free Enterprise Award by the National Federation of Independent Business/Texas. Robert Howden of NFIB/Texas presented the award to Shapiro at an event this morning with over 50 businesswomen and supporters of Shapiro from the Metroplex area.

NFIB cited Shapiro's support for small business, Internet tax relief, tort reform, R&D tax credits, and child care tax credits. "Florence Shapiro has been a constant, reliable supporter of small business during her time in the Texas legislature," stated Howden. "Small business needs Florence Shapiro in the Texas Senate."

"I am honored to receive this award from NFIB. I have always been a proponent for the business community. As a small business owner myself, I know first hand how we should encourage the growth of business in Texas," Shapiro stated. "This award means a great deal to me."

Shapiro has served in the Texas Senate since 1993. She currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on State Affairs and as a member of the Criminal Justice and Administration Committees, the Legislative Budget Board and the Legislative Audit Committee.
