SENATOR PATRICK ENCOURAGES VOTERS TO HELP LOWER STATE SPENDING
Taxpayers now have the tools to turn the tide of consistent budget growth.
AUSTIN - Senator Patrick is pleased to announce that the window on the Texas budget has just opened a little more. "Texas voters have been shut out of the budget process for too long," stated Senator Dan Patrick, "and placing budget requests at a centralized place online will give them a seat at the appropriations table."
On July 30, Senator Patrick asked the Legislative Budget Board (LBB) to create a centralized website for state agencies to post their legislative appropriations requests. The webpage was quickly produced and made public on August 8. As agencies submit their requests, the LBB will make their document available on the following webpage.
"Legislative appropriations requests are not light reading, but I encourage everyone to focus on Section 1, the Administrator's Statement and Section 2.E, the Summary of Exceptional Items Request," said Senator Patrick. "These sections will give readers a brief outline of what funds the agency is requesting and how the agency intends to spend them."
"The Texas budget has doubled since 1998 and has consistently outpaced population and inflation growth," stated Senator Patrick. "I invite all the taxpayers of Texas to review each appropriation request and contact their legislators with budget cut recommendations."
