SENATOR PATRICK INVITES VOTERS TO REVIEW AGENCY BUDGET REQUESTS
More budget transparency will help reduce the rapidly growing state budget.
AUSTIN - In order to open the window to Texas' appropriations process to the voters of Texas, Senator Dan Patrick has asked the Legislative Budget Board (LBB) to make the legislative appropriations request of every state agency available on their website.
Although each agency posts their budget requests on their own website, a centralized location for these documents will allow members of the public to quickly and easily access these documents.
"Budget transparency is critical as the state's budget continues to grow at a rapid pace. Spending has doubled since 1998 and has consistently outpaced population and inflation growth," stated Senator Patrick. "The number of state government employees is also increasing at a break-neck pace as the total has jumped by more than ten percent since 2004."
"I hope the LBB will respond promptly to this request. The sooner we give Texas voters easy access to this information," said Senator Patrick, "the sooner they can help reverse the trend of unrestrained state spending."
