SENATOR GARCIA NOT SURPRISED AT
SECOND CALLED SPECIAL SESSION
Today, Governor Rick Perry called a second special session of the 83rd Legislature to consider the abortion, transportation, and criminal justice bills that died during the regular and first special session. The second special session will begin at 2pm on July 1st, 2013, only 5 days after adjourning early yesterday morning.
"Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to Rick Perry and his extremist attempts at thwarting basic constitutional rights for women. Twice he has ignored the voice and will of the people to impose his political agenda on Texans, and wasted many valuable tax dollars for his own personal political benefit," stated Garcia.
"But it takes two to tango, and Lt Governor Dewhurst is the Governor's willing partner. He alone decided not to hear bills on transportation and criminal justice even after Democratic Senators advised him that we were ready to support the measures. Now, he wants another chance to make up for his failed leadership? Sadly, Perry and Dewhurst are more interested in their own political agenda than the people's agenda," continued Senator Garcia.
"I will fight any bill that reduces women's constitutional rights, today, tomorrow, or any year. Democrats have already fought this battle twice this year, we're ready to fight it again, and we will be there every step of the way to defend the will of the people."
