Senator Willams Receives Key Appointments
Assigned to Senate Finance, Education, Business and Commerce and Vice-Chair of Criminal Justice
January 23, 2003 (Austin, Texas) Senator Tommy Williams was appointed to four major Senate committees two days after being sworn into the Texas State Senate.
Lt. Governor David Dewhurst appointed Williams to serve as vice-chair of the Criminal Justice Committee of the Texas Senate. This panel will oversee all matters pertaining to the penal code and the state prison system. Senator Williams will also be a member of the Senate Finance Committee, Business and Commerce Committee and Education Committee.
"The Senate is fortunate to have Senator Williams' counsel on such a broad range of important issues," said Lt. Gov. Dewhurst. "He will provide important leadership on public policy issues. I look forward to relying on his background and experience."
"I couldn't be happier," reported Williams. "These committee assignments offer a great opportunity to work on issues important to Southeast Texas, and to be appointed to serve on such significant committees during my first term is very humbling."
Senator Williams was elected to the Texas Senate last November. He previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1997 to 2003. Williams' Senate District includes Chambers, Liberty, Orange and parts of Harris, Jefferson and Montgomery counties.
