Senator Estes attends Joint Committee on Use of the Sales Tax on Sporting Goods
Austin - State Senator Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) attended today's hearing by the Joint Committee on Use of the Sales Tax on Sporting Goods to determine the amount of sales tax revenue that must be generated to fund appropriations made by the 80th Legislature.
Estes sponsored House Bill 12 during the 80th Regular Session to increase the portion of funds generated from the sales tax on sporting goods for funding state and local parks.
"In the last Session, we began to restore the promise made to the taxpayers to use the proceeds from the sales tax revenue on sporting goods for the benefit of our state and local parks, and to preserve our wide open spaces and natural wonders," said Estes.
"I believe this meeting is the next step in maintaining our commitment to this promise, and I look forward to our continued work on this issue in the next Session," continued Estes.
Estes added a provision to House Bill 12 to create the Joint Committee on Use of the Sales Tax on Sporting Goods to examine what items should be included as sporting goods and the expected revenue that would be generated from the sales tax to help find a long-term funding solution for parks and wildlife, historic sites, and coastal management.
