State Senator Craig Estes named Senate Legislator of the Year

Austin - State Senator Craig Estes (Wichita Falls-R) was honored as the Senate Legislator of the Year by the Texas Recreation and Park Society for his work in restoring funding for state and local parks during the 80th Legislature.

"I am honored by this recognition. Passing House Bill 12 represented not only a commitment to rehabilitate our state and local parks, but also a restoration of our promise to use the proceeds from the sales tax on sporting goods for the benefit of these parks," said Estes.

This year's award was presented to Estes during the Texas Recreation and Park Society's annual Institute and Trade Show held at Angelo State University on March 28. The organization selected Estes for his work in passing House Bill 12 through the State Senate during the final hours of the Regular Session, which provided up to $182 million in new funding for state and local parks.
