Senator Craig Estes Kicks Off 80th Legislature

Austin, TX - State Senator Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) has kicked off his third regular legislative session serving the people of Senate District 30 in North Texas.

"I am eager to get to work on the issues important to our district and our state," said Estes when the 80th Legislature convened Tuesday. "During this session we will face vital issues such as passing a biennial budget that is responsible to taxpayers, improving public education for our children, overseeing electric utility deregulation, and dealing with overcrowding in our prisons in a way that ensures public safety and offers opportunities for rehabilitation."

"I will be working with my colleagues in the Senate and House to increase funding for our state parks to preserve and maintain our Texas landscapes, wild river basins, rolling hill country, and windswept prairies for all Texans to enjoy," added Estes.

Estes said he will continue his work to battle the problem of meth drugs in our communities by building on past successes with tougher criminal sanctions for cookers and pushers of these dangerous drugs, especially those who endanger children.

"I am proud of what we have been able to achieve so far, but we still have much more work to do," said Estes.

Estes serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Natural Resources Committee and is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Coastal Resources. Estes also serves on the Business and Commerce, Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, and International Relations and Trade committees, and is a member of the Texas Sunset Commission.

Estes serves nearly 700,000 constituents across Senate District 30 which includes all of Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cooke, Grayson, Jack, Montague, Palo Pinto, Parker, Shackelford, Stephens, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger, Wise, and Young counties and parts of Collin and Denton counties.
