Estes Named Chairman of Senate Ag Subcommittee, Vice-Chair of Natural Resources
AUSTIN -- State Senator Craig Estes, R-Wichita Falls, has been named chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Coastal Resources and vice-chairman of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources.
These were among several committee chairmanship changes announced by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst as the Senate launches its interim studies on policy issues likely to surface when the 80th Legislature convenes next January.
"Senator Estes brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Texas Senate, especially in agriculture and economic development," Dewhurst said. "His leadership and talent will be particularly important this year as we address the challenges facing this session. I commend his dedication to serving the people of District 30, and I look forward to continuing to work with him on issues that affect the great State of Texas."
Estes also was assigned to continue serving on the Senate committees on Business and Commerce, Veterans Affairs and Military Installations, and International Relations and Trade, and the Subcommittee on Base Realignment and Closure, and the Subcommittee on Emerging Technologies and Economic Development. He also serves on the Sunset Advisory Commission.
"I am very pleased with these committee assignments, and I am especially grateful for being named to a chairmanship that focuses on agriculture and rural issues," Estes said.
Estes was elected to the Texas Senate in December 2001 and represents the diverse 18-county Senate District 30 which includes the counties of Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cooke, Grayson, Jack, Montague, Parker, Palo Pinto, Shackelford, Stephens, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger, Wise and Young and parts of Collin and Denton.
