Nichols welcomes Palestine residents to Texas Capitol
Austin — Today, state Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) welcomed a delegation from Anderson County in honor of Palestine Days at the Texas Capitol.
"This is a great way for citizens to see their state government in action," said Nichols. "It's also a great way to showcase Palestine to folks in Austin."
Over the course of their two-day visit, delegates will meet with Nichols and Rep. Byron Cook (R-Corsicana). They will also hear from Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Palestine native and Agricultural Commissioner Todd Staples.
On Wednesday, the group will watch the House and Senate chambers in action, including recognition from their elected officials.
"I'm always excited to recognize groups from the district before the Senate," said Nichols. "It's a great visual reminder that the decisions the Legislature makes in Austin affect the lives of hard-working Texans back home."
In addition to watching state government in action, the group will also attend briefings on tourism in Texas, economic development, and an update from the Texas Department of Transportation.
