Sen. Lucio Earns Honor from the Equity Center
Area Legislator Named Champion for Children
Edinburg Tx — State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. was honored Wednesday in a ceremony sponsored by The Equity Center where he received its Champion for Children Award.
"I am honored to have received this award," said Senator Lucio. "However, the true reward will be that one day the state of Texas will fund public education fairly and generously."
The award is given to those legislators who have made consistent and outstanding contributions to ensure fair and equitable funding of all Texas public schools while ensuring fair treatment for property tax payers.
"Senator Lucio has steadfastly advocated school funding plans that would treat all school children and property tax payers fairly. The Equity Center is an association of nearly 700 property-poor and mid-wealth school districts from across Texas. It is the largest research and advocacy organization dedicated to school finance and property tax policies in the nation. It exclusively representing the interests of over 3.5 million Texas school children who attend school in its member districts.
"Sen. Lucio understands the vital importance of educating our children. He has consistently authored legislation that would make the education of our children better. And that makes Texas's future brighter. He is indeed a champion for children," Pierce added.
