The Sacredness of Fatherhood - Happy Fathers Day!
Father's Day will be my first without my own Father. My Dad died last year on September 4. However, my nine siblings and I knew that he never took the sacredness of fatherhood for granted. He was strict, sometimes even demanding, about how we developed character, faith, careers and patriotism.
He led by example, never leaving us to doubt his love for us or his expectations of us. As a father and grandfather, I truly appreciate the groundwork he laid for me.
Unfortunately, many feel they have little to celebrate on Father's Day because their fathers lacked parenting skills, or offered little in terms of emotional or financial support. True. The offspring of uncaring or absent fathers suffer and sometimes do poorly. So this Father's Day is a good time for men of all ages to consider mentoring boys and girls who have to do without. Many organizations offer volunteering opportunities.
But it is also a time to remember and thank the good fathers and stepfathers who honor the title of Father.
