SENATOR LUCIO PRESENTS DOCTOR OF THE DAY TO THE TEXAS SENATE
AUSTIN, TX -- During the long, busy hours when the Texas Legislature is in session, both legislators and staff members sometimes experience illnesses or medical emergencies. On-hand to handle these needs is a doctor of the day who offers free medical care along with Capitol Nurse Practitioner Tim Flynn, R.N., F.N.P.
On Tuesday, March 6, Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr. introduced Dr. Audrey Lee Jones, doctor of osteopathic medicine, as Doctor of the Day, and she was also presented in the House of Representatives. Accompanying Dr. Jones were her sister and nurse practitioner, Karol Holman, and Michelle Zimmer, her medical assistant, both from Alamo.
Doctors of the Day come from throughout the state and are introduced by their corresponding Senators and Representatives.
Dr. Jones, an Alamo native, attended the University of North Texas, College of Osteopathic Medicine, and returned to the Rio Grande Valley to begin her practice in 1997.
Sen. Lucio said in his remarks, "Members, I am proud to announce that Dr. Jones was named Citizen of the Year for 2006. Help me welcome and thank Dr. Jones for taking time away from her practice to bless us all here today with good health."
Pictured L to R in the Senate Chamber are Michelle Zimmer, Medical Assistant (Alamo); Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr.; Dr. Audrey Lee Jones, Doctor of the Day (Alamo); Karol Holman, Nurse Practitioner (Alamo); and Sen. Robert Deuell, also a physician (Greenville).
