Sen. Lucio Comments on Resignation of Dr. Eduardo Sanchez
Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services
AUSTIN, TX -- "It is with sadness that I learn of Dr. Sanchez's decision to resign as Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services. However, I feel extremely glad when I ponder all he has accomplished during his tenure as the state's "Leading Doctor."
We should all be grateful to him for his vigilance and innovation regarding Texas' public health needs, including his leadership on tackling the state's poor nutrition and obesity crisis.
Commissioner Sanchez never shied away from any challenges, including those Texas faced during Hurricane Katrina. His foresight and expertise proved instrumental as the state worked to provide mental and physical health care to the more than 250,000 evacuees who arrived here last year.
I can truthfully say that Dr. Sanchez always considered the health of every Texan as his top priority. He is indeed an outstanding public servant, a highly qualified physician and a loving family man. Dr. Sanchez has been a true friend and confidante. It will be hard to get along without him during the next legislative session. However, I support him in his next endeavors."
