AUSTIN, TX--Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr. presented Jesse Marines with a Senate Resolution yesterday during the 79th legislative session recognizing him for winning the silver medal at the 2005 University Interscholastic League State Wrestling Championships this past February.

"Jesse has been wrestling for only two years, and in that time has earned top ranking in the state," said Sen. Lucio.

Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. congratulates Jess Marines of Weslaco High School in the Texas Senate on March 17 for winning the silver medal at the 2005 University Intersocholastic League State Wrestling Championships in February.

The Weslaco High School senior defeated three talented opponents to advance to the championship final. Although he narrowly missed a trip to the state championships last year when a shoulder injury prevented him from securing the final qualifying spot, the young Marines overcame this setback to be able to compete in the 171-pound weight class. He completed his senior year with an impressive 31-2 record.

Sen. Lucio told the Senate, "Throughout the long season, Jesse has relied on the support of his coach (John Glapa), his teammates, the students and faculty of Weslaco High School, and most of all, his family."

"Jesse has brought great honor to his family, his school and his town, and it was certainly an honor for me to meet this young man and his family," added Sen. Lucio. "His achievement was fully supported by the Texas Senate as we recognized him on the floor," added Sen. Lucio.
