Sen. Lucio included in Walk of Fame at 2005 BorderFest Salute
AUSTIN, TX -- Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr. was inducted last night into the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame during the 2005 BorderFest Salute to celebrate his life, achievements and significant civic contributions to the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas.
"This is indeed an honor for me to be included in our Valley's Walk of Fame," said Sen. Lucio. "I am pleased to join the ranks of others who labor tirelessly to improve the Valley and South Texas. The reason we have been able to achieve goals for this area of the state is because of the people who have made this wonderful event and the Walk possible, and I thank them."
The Walk was added to the festivities by the city of Hidalgo, BorderFest Association, Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce and the city of Hidalgo Texas Municipal Facilities Corporation. Unveiled as part of the festivities, the Walk will include people from all backgrounds, and is located at the Dodge Arena.
The Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame Commission makes the final selection of the inductees. The commission includes representatives from local libraries, arts organizations, the media, and other citizens with an understanding of the Valley's cultural heritage.
The inaugural group of inductees includes one person selected by every city council and one by each chamber in the Valley. In addition, the Commission also includes a person selected by the BorderFest Association and the City of Hidalgo. Additional persons will be inducted and recognized during each subsequent BorderFest.
