AUSTIN, TX--State Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr. today announced he is hosting a Border Education Summit May 10-11 in Austin to discuss the implications of public school finance on the Border area.
Senators Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, Frank Madla, Eliot Shapleigh, Leticia Van de Putte and Judith Zaffirini are co-hosting the meeting, which will bring together Border legislators, as well as superintendents, school board members, local elected officials, business leaders and other interested citizens from Brownsville to El Paso to discuss the Border's unique needs as they pertain to public education.
Key educational experts, including Judge Scott McCown from the Center for Public Policy Priorities and Dr. Wayne Pierce from the Equity Center will provide the backdrop for the discussions.
Sen. Lucio said that this Summit is an opportunity for the participants to provide their input and influence any legislation under consideration. His goal is to outline a road map for legislators from the Border and other areas of Texas to consider when forming the next school finance plan.
