AUSTIN, TXState Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr. will announce Friday that he is filing a bill for the upcoming third special session requesting $19,161,612 in general revenue funding for the Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) in South Texas. Sen. Lucio is asking the Governor for the third time this year (includes past regular session and first special session) to appropriate additional funds.
As co-author of the bill, Sen. Juan Chuy Hinojosa will join Sen. Lucio at the press event. Both legislators will also address other issues on the call of the special session.
The Senators feel that funding for the RAHC is crucial for South Texas, and that the funds could be made available from the $81 million in spending eliminated by Gov. Perry in his line-item vetoes. The RAHC was established in 1997 by Senate Bill 606, which was authored by Sen. Lucio.
