Legendary Tejano Stars to Perform a Governor for a Day
AUSTIN, TX - To heighten the festivities honoring State Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. (D-Brownsville) as Governor For A Day and his family and constituents, several Tejano stars will perform at the Texas Capitol in Austin on April 26, 2003.
Tejano superstars expected to attend include Bobby Pulido, Joe Lopez, Roberto Pulido, and "El Gato Negro" Ruben Ramos.
"Not only will these Texas legends add to the festivities, but they will serve as a reminder to the entire state of the rich cultural heritage that South Texas has to offer," said Sen. Lucio.
Bands from district area schools and universities such as San Benito High School, Eddie Lucio, Jr. Middle School, and the University of Texas at Brownsville will also perform that day.
"These young musicians will share the spotlight with renowned performers, whose years of experience should serve to teach and motivate them to achieve their highest potential," remarked Sen. Lucio. "I am so proud that such a fine representation of South Texas talent will be a part of this historic event in Austin."
Governor for a Day is held not only to honor the President Pro Tempore, an office to which Sen. Lucio was elected for the 78th legislative session, but to honor the people of District 27 as well.
Sen. Lucio urges the people of Texas to join him, his family, and his friends from South Texas in this celebration. For more information, the public or media can call the District 27 Brownsville Office at 956-548-0227.
