AUSTIN, TX - Sen. Lucio, chairman of the Senate International Relations and Trade Committee, has invited expert testimony on homeland security issues affecting the Texas-Mexico Border and the Gulf Coast to testify.

Tentatively scheduled to offer updates regarding security on the Border and at our states water ports in case of a severe threat level or terrorist acts are: State Coordinator with the Governors Division of Emergency Management Jack Colley; Homeland Security Coordinator Jay Kimbrough; Texas Department of Transportation Executive Director Michael Behrens; and Brownsville Port Director Raul Besteiro.

The Committee will also hear Senate Bill 535 by Sen. Lucio, which would authorize certain counties to regulate land development, and Senate Bill 353 by Sen. Eliot Shapleigh (D-El Paso), vice-chair of the Committee, relating to tax increment financing under the Tax Increment Financing Act in Border cities.

Members of the committee, in addition to Senators Lucio and Shapleigh, include Teel Bivins (R-Amarillo), John Carona (R-Dallas), Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls), Jane Nelson, (R-Flower Mound) and Judith Zaffirini (D-Laredo).
