Sen. Lucio comments on Comptroller Rylander's Texas War Relief Package
AUSTIN, TX--"First of all I'd like to salute Comptroller Rylander for her suggestions to assist the fighting men and women of Texas who are being called to protect our country. I read with interest, all her recommendations and it got me to thinking, 'perhaps Governor Perry should expand his Task Force on Homeland Security to include her proposals.' I also propose that he take his plan a step further and ask all state agency heads to develop recommendations to assist these people.
At the same time, constitutional attorneys, both from the Legislative Council and the Attorney General's Office, should start looking at these recommendations and see which we can or cannot do without legislative approval. We should ensure that we do everything possible to cut through the bureaucratic red tape.
Once again, Comptroller Rylander has set the standard for other state agencies to reach. She's living up to her reputation of being 'one tough grandma' and I stand ready to assist her."
