Senate confirms appointment of Tomas Cantu to Texas Structural Pest Control Board
AUSTIN, TX--On Wednesday, May 16, the full Senate confirmed the appointment of Mr. Tomas Cantu to serve on the Texas Structural Pest Control Board. During the interim, state Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr., D-Brownsville, affirmed him and on Tuesday, May 8, the Senate Nominations Committee gave him their approval.
The Texas Structural Pest Control Board sets the standards for pest control work, and establishes and upholds standards for licensed pesticide applicators. Composed of nine members representing the entire state, the Board protects both the health of citizens and the fragile natural environment.
Mr. Cantu attended Carrizo Springs High School and Southwest Texas Junior College. After serving in a variety of positions with one firm, he started his own pest control business in McAllen.

He presides over his trade association's local chapter and serves on the Board of Directors at the state level. Expressing his commitment to this position, Mr. Cantu said that such an opportunity "helps improve our industry by reaching out to others."
Senator Lucio fully supports the appointment of Mr. Cantu, stating, "With his professional experience and dedication to his community, Mr. Cantu will do an outstanding job on the Texas Structural Pest Control Board."
Mr. Cantu will serve in this position for four years. His appointment will last until February 1, 2005.
