Van De Putte and Bexar Delegation Host Reception for New TXDOT Director Joe Weber
SAN ANTONIO — Tonight, July 2, 2014, state Senator Leticia Van de Putte and members of the Bexar County Legislative Delegation hosted a reception for Lt. Gen. Joe Weber (retired USMC). General Weber was hired in April 2014 as the 20th executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Prior to joining TxDOT, Lt. Gen. Weber served as Vice President of Student Affairs at Texas A&M University in College Station. Weber also spent 36 years in the United States Marine Corps. He served in assignments throughout the United States and overseas leading major efforts, including tours in Iraq and Japan.
"As Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations, I'm particularly excited to have someone of Lt. Gen. Joe Weber's experience taking over TxDOT," said Senator Van de Putte. "The military develops leadership — it develops the character needed to tackle complex problems and to remain calm in the face of great challenges.
"And make no mistake about it — we have some great challenges to our state's transportation system today. Texas' population has boomed to 26 million people, with more moving to Texas every day. Whether you're a business leader trying to ship goods and materials, or a commuter trying to get to work, or a traveler seeking out our many entertaining tourist destinations, we need transportation infrastructure that is reliable and efficient."
