Texas Senator Leticia Van de Putte holds Press Conference regarding the Senator Frank Madla Act
(AUSTIN, TX) -- On February 14, at 10:00 am, Senator Leticia Van de Putte will hold a press conference, in the Lieutenant Governor's Press Room, regarding Senate Bill 338, the Senator Frank Madla Act.
The bill, which is named in honor of Senator Madla at the request of Helen Madla, would require each one-family or two-family dwelling that begins construction on or after January 1, 2008 to be equipped with both a carbon monoxide alarm and smoke detector. It also would require each one-family or two-family dwelling, where there is a transfer of ownership to be equipped with both a carbon monoxide alarm and smoke detector. Representative Rob Eissler has filed the companion bill, House Bill 861.
Senator Van de Putte will be joined by Helen Madla, Representative Eissler, former Senator Ken Armbrister, Legislative Director for Governor Perry, Mike Higgins of the Texas State Association of Firefighters, John Villareal of the Houston Professional Firefighters and Tosca Gruber, Austin area Realtor, to discuss this very important piece of legislation.
The time is ripe to do more to ensure the safety of our residents," said Senator Leticia Van de Putte. "Senator Madla's legacy lives on, as we seek to further protect Texas families in his name.

In regards to tomorrow's press conference, Helen Madla so eloquently said, "For Valentines Day, flowers are great and chocolate is even better, but a smoke alarm can save your loved one's life."
