Texas Senator Leticia Van de Putte Presents Gift to Cleto Rodriguez Elementary School
(SAN ANTONIO, TX) -- On February 9, at 10:00 am, Senator Leticia Van de Putte (D - San Antonio) will make a special presentation to Cleto Rodriguez Elementary School. In honor of Master Sgt. Cleto L. Rodriguez' service and valor in World War II, Senator Van de Putte had numerous memorabilia items refurbished to display for the students' appreciation.
Cleto L. Rodriguez attended the elementary school, which was then named Ivanhoe, in the 1930's. In 1975 the school was named in honor of Rodriguez, at the request of the community.
Born April 26, 1923, Rodriguez served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was the first Hispanic American to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. He is also the recipient of a Silver Star, Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. Rodriguez remained active in the community and very involved with the elementary school until his death in 1990.
The presentation will take place in the library of Cleto Rodriguez Elementary school, located at 3626 W. Durango, one block east of Our Lady of the Lake University.
