Texas Senator Leticia Van de Putte to receive Charles M. West Distinguished American Award
SAN ANTONIO -- The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) honored Senator Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) with the Charles M. West Distinguished American Award today, October 9, 2006. The award ceremony took place at the 108th Annual Convention at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Charles M. West Distinguished American Award is named in honor of Charles M. West, R. Ph., who was NCPA Executive Vice President from 1984-1996. It recognizes leaders whose contributions have had a lasting impact on pharmacy and the health and welfare of the American public. The NCPA represents the nation's community pharmacists, including the owners of 24,000 pharmacies.
Senator Leticia Van de Putte attended the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. She has been a practicing pharmacist for over 26 years and currently works as a part-time pharmacist at Davila Pharmacy, located on the west side of San Antonio. She is being honored, because she has long served the people of her state through her work as both an elected official and a health care professional.
