Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee to hold hearing in Austin
SAN ANTONIO -- The Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, chaired by Senator Leticia Van de Putte ( D-San Antonio), is meeting on October 4, 2006, in Austin, Texas.
The Committee will hear invited and public testimony on overseas military voting and work to improve effectiveness and efficiency of state veterans' benefits. In addition, the committee will also monitor the transfer of the veteran employment programs from the Texas Workforce Commission to the Texas Veterans Commission and monitor the establishment of a database in the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board that tracks veterans' usage of the Hazlewood higher education tuition exemption.
"Through the Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee, I intend to work towards improving the quality of life of our military families and veterans," said Senator Leticia Van de Putte. "We must honor those who valiantly serve our country."
The hearing, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Betty King Committee Room of the Capitol.
