State Senator Leticia Van de Putte, San Antonio, District 26 will be filing legislation to announce the creation of the "San Antonio Joint Life Sciences Institute." The institute will link the biological and biomedical resources of The University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

The institute, the first of its kind in the state, will provide a structure through which UTSA and UTHSCA will develop and offer advanced academic degrees in the emerging life sciences and biomedical fields. This collaboration will attract support and economic growth in the biotechnology industry in San Antonio and South Texas.
