State Senator Leticia Van De Putte District 26 Reminds the San Antonio Community of Texas Tax Free Holiday

Senator Van de Putte stated, " The tax free holiday was initiated by the Legislature to give families the opportunity to purchase school items at a lower cost. I hope that all families are able to take advantage of this holiday and save on items necessary for the upcoming school year."

According to the Office of Texas State Comptroller , $32 million was saved in August 1999 by Texans purchasing items such as clothes and shoes. This year Texans are expected to save approximately $37 million.

The three-day Sales Tax Holiday throughout Texas communities is Aug 4-6. The San Antonio community is urged to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and venture out this weekend and purchase back-to-school items costing less than $100 per item. Clothing such as pants, shirts and tennis shoes are among the many items covered during this sales tax holiday. This is the second year for the tax holiday which includes this year layaway items. Any items placed in layaway this weekend can be taken out of layaway at a later date tax-free.

Additionally, given the opportunity to reach families taking advantage of the Sales Tax Holiday, the CHIP Outreach and Healthcare for Every Child Project will be at retail outlets throughout the San Antonio Area. Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides affordable healthcare for children from birth through 18 years of age. Families pay as little as $15 per year or up to $18 per month per family. Among the CHIP benefits enrollees are eligible for: Regular checkups, shots, eye exams, glasses, prescription drugs, specialist care, dental care, mental health care and hospital care and services.

Please join State Senator Leticia Van de Putte on Friday August 4th at CHIP Outreach Office/Healthcare for Every Child Resource Center @ 1405 N. Main Ste. # 1409 as she distributes TexCare Partnership applications and brochures kicking off the Sales Tax Holiday Weekend.
