Senator José Menéndez: District 26
The son of immigrants (a father from Cuba and a mother from Mexico), State Senator Jose Menendez grew up working in his family's small business. Senator Menendez graduated from Central Catholic High School before earning degrees in Business Administration and Latin American Studies at Southern Methodist University.
As a family man, devoted husband of 20 years, and father of three Senator Menendez believes in the power of education to transform families and communities. He established himself as a champion of increased funding for public education, higher teacher pay, and affordable higher education during his nearly 14 years serving the families of the 124th District in the Texas House of Representatives. As a freshman he passed a greater ratio of his legislation than any other member of the Bexar County delegation. In only his second term he was entrusted with appointments to the powerful Appropriations Committee and Calendars Committee. Since that time Senator Menendez distinguished himself as a commonsense problem solver who gets to the table where decisions are being made and works with all sides to get the job done for Texas families.
As a professional Senator Menendez has helped tens of thousands of families realize the American Dream of homeownership through his work at Stewart Title. His work ethic and business success led to his rapid promotion from a local commercial marketing representative, to National Director for Multi-Cultural markets, to a Vice President of the National Title Services division in less than 15 years.
