Fraser Sworn-in as President Pro Tempore of Texas Senate

AUSTIN — State Senator Troy Fraser (R-Horseshoe Bay) was sworn in as President Pro Tempore of the Texas Senate on Monday June 1, 2009.

As President Pro-Tempore, Fraser is third in line for the Governor's seat and will be given the responsibility over the next 18 months to serve in that capacity in the event that Governor Rick Perry and Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst are out of the state.

"I am honored to serve as President Pro-Tempore and have the opportunity to serve as Governor when needed," Fraser said. "My tenure as President Pro-Tempore is a tribute to my parents - who worked three jobs to ensure that their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren had more opportunities they then had."

Fraser spoke at length about his family and friends and how each of those relationships have impacted his life. He talked of the sacrifice that he and fellow Senators make to serve the people of Texas and quoted Albert Schweitzer by saying "You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others."

"The Texas Senate is the greatest institution and deliberative body in the world," Fraser said. "Through the years, we have all come to understand our relationships with each other are bigger than any single issue. Even in times of disagreement, we are always able to work together to move forward for the good of this great state."

"Our individual success is also our collective success," said Fraser. "We should take great pride in what we have managed to do and what we will continue to do during this interim as we study and prepare for the next legislative session."
