Fraser Remains Chair Of Senate Committee on Business & Commerce
AUSTIN -- State Senator Troy Fraser has been reappointed chairman of the powerful Senate Committee on Business and Commerce by Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst.
The committee handles the flow of legislation related to insurance, telecommunications, banking, securities and lending issues, and business licensing and regulation.
"Senator Fraser has done an outstanding job as Business and Commerce chair for the last three years," Dewhurst said in making the announcement. "As a seasoned legislator and leader with a background in business, he will be a key player as the Texas Senate faces the challenges of this legislative session. I will rely heavily on his expertise and experience, particularly on economic issues."
Fraser, R-Horseshoe Bay, will also serve as a member of the Natural Resources Committee, which handles water, air and oil and gas issues; the State Affairs Committee, a catch-all panel that handles major state policy and state government issues; and the Veterans Affairs & Military Installations Committee and its subcommittee on Base Realignment and Closure.
"I'm pleased with the assignments and I look forward to getting to work," Fraser said. "The budget situation is better than it was last session but we still have many challenges ahead."
Troy Fraser was elected in 1996 to serve Senate District 24, a 21-county region that is located in the geographic center of Texas. Prior to his election to the Texas Senate in 1996, Senator Fraser served three terms in the Texas House of Representatives, from 1988 to 1992.
