Deuell Appointed to Sunset Advisory Commission
- State Senator Bob Deuell (R-Greenville) has been appointed to the Sunset Advisory Commission by Lt. Governor David Dewhurst. Sunset is the regular assessment by the Legislature of the continuing need for a state agency to exist. The Sunset process works by setting a date on which an agency will be abolished unless legislation is passed to continue its functions. This creates a unique opportunity for the Legislature to look closely at each agency and make fundamental changes.
Deuell said he is honored by the appointment and looks forward to working with the other members of the commission.
"I am honored to be selected by Lt. Governor Dewhurst to serve on the Sunset Advisory Commission. The Sunset process ensures that state agencies are responsive and public dollars are being used wisely," Deuell said. "Serving on Sunset is a tremendous responsibility, and I will work hard to ensure that our citizens' hard-earned tax dollars are being used efficiently."
Lt. Governor Dewhust made the announcement on Wednesday.
"I have full confidence in Sen. Deuell's abilities and leadership, and know he will be a valuable asset during the Sunset process" Dewhurst said. "Sen. Deuell is a true fiscal conservative and a tireless watchdog of the people's money. I know he will serve his constituents and all Texans with distinction."
The Sunset process is guided by a 12-member body of legislators and public members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Assisting the Commission is a staff whose reports provide an assessment of an agency's programs, giving the Legislature the information needed to draw conclusions about the agencies under review.
