Uresti hosts reception for Texas veterans
SAN ANTONIO -- State Sen. Carlos Uresti is hosting a Veterans Day reception to honor veterans from all branches of the military and to celebrate the Marine Corps' birthday.
"Texas veterans deserve our respect and our thanks every day, but Veterans Day provides a special opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice," Uresti said. "This annual reception is my way of saying thanks for serving our nation. The freedom we enjoy proves it was a job well done!"
The reception also marks the 238th birthday of the United States Marine Corps, which was founded on Nov. 10, 1775, by the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia.
"This event is a family affair for me," said Uresti, a Marine veteran whose brother and son served in the Marines and whose father served in the Army. "I urge all veterans to take this opportunity to enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie of the larger family of those who served their country with courage and distinction."
Uresti is also inviting members of the media to attend the event. There will be plenty of photo opportunities, and a chance to hear a war story or two.
