LUNCHEON HELD IN HONOR OF SENATOR URESTI
The City of Uvalde generously hosted a lunch in honor of State Senator Carlos Uresti on July 31, 2008 at the new Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College The Senator was particularly impressed with the new 32,000-square-foot, Dolph and Janey Briscoe Building where the meeting was held.
A group of concerned citizens expressed their passionate position on water protection within Uvalde County. The Senator was happy to meet the new Mayor of Uvalde Cody Smith and visited with Judge Bill Mitchell, Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Superintendant Dr. Wendell Brown, and others over lunch where they discussed topics such as education, transportation, and health care.
"This part of District 19 is beautiful and serene," said Uresti. "I extend my deepest gratitude to the City of Uvalde for their hospitality."
Carlos I. Uresti is the State Senator of District 19, the largest geographical senate district in the contiguous 48 states. Senate District 19 spans a 23 county area stretching along the U.S.-Mexico border, from San Antonio to El Paso County. Covering 55,000 square miles, the district contains 62 school districts, spans two time zones, and is larger than 24 states and 25 countries.
