Senator Uresti hosts community for his 11th Annual Christmas Party and Toy Drive

San Antonio, TX -- More than 1,000 people braved a cold front and wet streets last Friday night to enjoy State Senator Carlos I. Uresti's 11th Annual Christmas Party and Toy Drive at VFW Post 9186 in San Antonio's Southside.

"The food is delicious, the band is great, and everyone here has the holiday spirit. However, the ones who always benefit the most from this party are the needy children who will be receiving the toys that people brought with them tonight," Senator Uresti said.

The toy drive, which benefited Toys for Tots and The Children's Shelter, was enormously successful this year thanks in part to the party's growing reputation as both a charitable event and a reception for constituents.

"This celebration is my family's gift to the community that has supported me for more than ten years. I believe that people who have been blessed with much should give something back and this is our opportunity to do so, " Senator Uresti said.

The event featured live music, a photo opportunity with Santa Claus and the Spurs Coyote, and a number of door prizes with Spurs tickets as the grand prize.

Carlos I. Uresti is the senator from State Senate District 19, a 23 county area stretching along the U.S.-Mexico border, from San Antonio to El Paso County, including all or part of the following counties: Bandera, Bexar, Brewster, Culberson, Crockett, El Paso, Edwards, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Kinney, Loving, Maverick, Medina, Pecos, Presidio, Real, Reeves, Sutton, Terrell, Uvalde, Val Verde, Ward, and Winkler. Covering 55,000 square miles, the district contains 62 school districts, and spans two time zones. As the largest geographical senate district in the contiguous 48 states, Senate District 19 is larger than 24 states and 25 countries.
