Senators Uresti, Shapiro Team Up for Fallen Soldiers

AUSTIN, TX -- Today the Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 277, legislation written to protect the memories of fallen military personnel. The bill was jointly authored by State Senator Carlos Uresti and State Senator Florence Shapiro, and prohibits the use of a deceased service person's image for commercial use. S.B. 277 also provides for family members of the deceased to retain all rights to his or her name and image.

"Senate Bill 277 helps ensure that the memories of our fallen heroes will be treated with dignity and respect. Senator Shapiro and I authored this bill to assist these families in honoring their loved ones in the manner they deem appropriate," Senator Uresti said.

Senator Uresti, a former United States Marine and the father of a Marine, has championed veterans' rights since beginning his public service career in the Texas House of Representatives in 1997.
