Uresti Appointed to the Edwards Aquifer Legislative Oversight Committee
AUSTIN -- Today Senator Carlos Uresti was appointed to the Edwards Aquifer Legislative Oversight Committee by Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst, effective immediately.
"I am looking forward to working with the Committee as we continue work to safeguard this precious Texas resource, and I thank the Lieutenant Governor for this opportunity," Uresti said on Thursday morning, upon accepting his appointment.
Established in 1993, the Committee examines the effectiveness of state and local governmental entities in working with the Edwards Aquifer Authority, and reports its findings to the Legislature. The Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the House each appoint three members to the Committee, two of whom are selected to sit as co-chairs. The term of an appointment to the Committee is at the discretion of the appointing official.
Today's committee appointment comes on the heels of Uresti's recent appointment as the vice chairman of the powerful Senate Committee on Administration. Uresti was also appointed to the Senate Committee on Natural Resources, as well as the Committee on Health and Human Services, the Committee on International Relations, and the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs, and Coastal Resources.
