Senator Glenn Hegar Reminds Texans of Approaching Voter Registration Deadline

With an election just around the corner, Senator Glenn Hegar wanted to take a moment to issue a reminder that anyone wishing to cast a vote on the ten proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution must complete a voter registration application by Tuesday, October 11.

"Texans have the opportunity to make their voices heard simply and effectively by casting their vote, for or against, each of the ten constitutional amendments that will appear on the November 8 ballot," said Senator Hegar, "and it is my strong hope that anyone not yet registered will take a moment to complete a voter registration application so that they can take part in this essential process."

In order to be eligible, prospective voters must be U.S. citizens, registered to vote in Texas, at least 18 years of age, and free of disqualifying criteria tied to criminal history and mental incapacity. Voter registration cards must be completed by October 11. They can be obtained online, in your county's voter registrar's office (which, in most counties, will be the tax assessor-collector's office), libraries, government offices, and high schools, among other locations. Completed forms should then be mailed, postage-free, to the voter registrar in your county.

Under a new Texas law, all voters must present identification before casting a vote. For information on acceptable forms of identification, finding your county's voter registrar office, or other election related questions, simply visit http://www.votexas.org

Senator Hegar also invites anyone needing assistance with unanswered questions to contact his staff at either 281-391-8883 or 512-463-0118.

Senator Hegar served two terms in the Texas House of Representatives and now represents Senate District 18 in the Texas Senate. He is a sixth generation Texan, and earns a living farming land that has been in his family since the mid 1800's. He currently resides in Katy, Texas with his wife Dara, and their three children, Claire, Julia, and Jonah.
