Senator Glenn Hegar, the youngest member of the Texas Senate, is a sixth generation Texan who farms on land that has been in his family since the mid-1800s. Glenn, his wife Dara and their children Claire, Julia, and Jonah live in Katy, where they attend St. Peter's United Methodist Church.

Senator Hegar serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Nominations, and as a member of the Committees on Finance; Natural Resources; and Agriculture, Rural Affairs, and Homeland Security. On Senate Finance, Senator Hegar not only helps craft the state budget, but serves as Chairman of a subcommittee charged with the review of state and local revenue matters.

As Chairman of the Nominations Committee, Senator Hegar will lead the Senate as it fulfills the constitutional duty to provide advice and consent on all appointments made by the Governor. Among others, every person appointed to a leadership position at a state agency must receive majority approval from first the Committee on Nominations, and second from two-thirds of the Texas Senate. In total, the Committee will consider over 700 nominees during the upcoming session; that number includes the over 400 gubernatorial appointments to be made in session, as well as the over 300 recess appointees named since last session and still awaiting confirmation by the Committee and full Senate.

Senator Hegar is the previous Chairman of the influential Sunset Advisory Commission. Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst's appointment of Senator Hegar as Vice Chairman of the Sunset Advisory Commission made Texas history, marking the first time that a freshman member of the Texas Senate was named to a leadership position of the powerful oversight commission. In addition to his other appointments, Senator Hegar is a member of the Environmental Flows Advisory Group, Edwards Aquifer Oversight Committee, the Legislature's Rural Caucus, as well as past Chairman and current Secretary and Treasurer of the Texas Legislative Sportsman's Caucus.

Senator Hegar is a true conservative who strongly defends the values of faith, family, and freedom. In a few short years, he has reduced government inefficiencies, saved taxpayer dollars, and provided common sense solutions to problems facing everyday Texans.

Glenn was recognized for his strong stand on Second Amendment rights when he was awarded the Doc Brown Legislator of the Year Award for 2009 by the Texas State Rifle Association and for his work in ensuring Texas retains a world class justice system with the with the Civil Justice Leadership Award from Texans for Lawsuit Reform. In recognition of his pro-business voting record, the Texas Association of Business named Glenn a "Champion for Free Enterprise," its most prestigious award; the Texas Mining and Reclamation Association named him Legislator of the Year; and the Texas Municipal Police Association awarded him the Legislative Excellence Award. In prior sessions, he was recognized as Best Legislator and the Rookie of the Year for the 80th Session by Capitol Inside, received the Legislative Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Police Association, Star for Rural Texas from the Texas Farm Bureau, and the Perfectly Pro-Life Award from Texas Right to Life.
