Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst Taps Huffman for the Environmental Flows Advisory Group
AUSTIN — Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst announced the appointment of State Senator Joan Huffman (R-Southside Place) as a member of the Environmental Flows Advisory Group. The Environmental Flows Advisory Group was created by the omnibus water policy legislation passed during the 80th Legislative Session to study the current and future demands placed on Texas' water resources and the resulting environmental impact.
"Representing one-third of the Texas Coast I am keenly aware of the importance our water resources have on the health of our rivers, bays, estuaries, and local communities," Huffman said. "Senate District 17 is at the crossroads of state water policy, the decisions made from the Piney Woods of East Texas to the High Plains of the Panhandle have a major impact on our communities and our access to clean and available water."
Environmental flows are vital to maintaining ecosystems and their benefits where there are competing demands from human consumption, industrial development, and environmental needs.
Senator Huffman will serve alongside Senators Kip Averitt, and Glen Hegar, Representatives Mike Hamilton, Dan Gattis and Jodie Laudenberg in addition to representatives from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Texas Water Development Board, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
