SENATOR CARONA RECEIVES COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS

(AUSTIN)--State Senator John Carona (R-Dallas) received his Senate committee assignments yesterday from Lieutenant Governor Rick Perry. He was appointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the Human Services Committee, and as a member of the Finance Committee, the Committee on Economic Development, and a Subcommittee on Technology and Business Growth. "I am honored by these important appointments and look forward to working on the critical issues facing Senate District 16 and the rest of Texas," said Senator Carona.

The Senate Human Services Committee will focus on continued reform of welfare and other critical issues. As Vice Chair of this Committee, Senator Carona will be responsible for running Committee hearings when the Chairperson is absent. As a member of the Finance Committee, Senator Carona will oversee all state spending through the biennial appropriations bill. The Economic Development Committee studies issues impacting economic growth and development in Texas. As part of this Committee, Senator Carona will serve on a special Subcommittee on Technology and Business Growth. This is a new Subcommittee created by Lt. Governor Perry to focus on technology issues in Texas.

"With two new committee assignments this session, I look forward to playing a role in shaping spending priorities and stimulating continued economic growth in our great state for the next two years," Senator Carona remarked.
