AUSTIN - State Senator John Carona (R-Dallas) was recently named to serve on the Texas Legislative Council by Lt. Governor Bob Bullock. In addition to Senator Carona, Lt. Governor Bullock also appointed Senators Truan, Barrientos, and West to new terms on the Council.

"I am honored that the Lt. Governor appointed me to serve on the Texas Legislative Council. I look forward to this opportunity to be directly involved in establishing policy for the legal arm of the Texas Legislature," Carona said.

Functions performed by the Texas Legislative Council for the Texas Senate and House of Representatives include drafting bills and other legislative documents, conducting legal and public policy research, producing informational publications, and supporting a wide variety of operations with information technology services.

In addition to the four Senate appointees, the panel includes the Lt. Governor, who serves as Chair of the Council, the Speaker of the Texas House, who serves as vice-Chair, the Chairs of the Senate and House committees on administration, and nine other members of the House appointed by the Speaker.

Senator Carona is serving his first term in the Texas Senate after serving three terms in the Texas House. Senator Carona's district includes portions of north and east Dallas and the cities of Garland, Richardson, Mesquite, Rowlett, Balch Springs, Sachse, Seagoville, and Sunnyvale.
